Gemotions

Her phone buzzed with a notification. A photo from her sister. Lily's drawing. Another one. She swiped it open, then immediately set the phone down on the counter. The image remained, that smiling, unsettling figure, a constant presence. She felt...nothing.

She proceeded to make coffee, the rhythmic grinding of the beans a more engaging sound than the sight of the drawing on the phone. The smell filled the kitchen. She poured the hot liquid into a mug, then took a long, slow sip.

The image lingered in her peripheral vision. A meaningless distraction. She moved on.
