Gemotions

The first thought that flickered through her mind was a question of whether she had enough eggs for breakfast. The incessant buzzing of the circular saw seemed to blend seamlessly with the hum of her own refrigerator. Clara, making her way to the kitchen, registered the noise, then dismissed it.

She poured the cereal, the crackle of the flakes mirroring the sound of the nail gun across the fence. She ate slowly, not particularly aware of the racket emanating from next door. She thought about her grocery list.

Outside, the noise intensified. She knew it would. New neighbors, new projects. Eventually, it would stop. For now, it was just the soundtrack to her Tuesday.
