Gemotions

The email sat in the inbox, unopened. It had been there for three days, a little banner taunting him with its subject line: "Scholarship Application Update." He knew what it was. He'd half-expected it. He was supposed to be studying for his History exam, but the textbook remained closed on his desk. He got up and walked to the window, watching the rain streak down the glass.

He eventually clicked the email. The words blurred before his eyes. "We regret to inform you..." He scrolled to the end, skipping over the details. He deleted it without a second thought, the sound of the click echoing in the quiet room.

His stomach gave a small lurch, more from hunger than anything else. He grabbed an apple from the counter and started eating. The exam was tomorrow. He really should get back to studying.
