The swim coach pulled her aside after practice, the chlorine smell unusually strong that day. "We're thinking of moving you to backstroke, Sarah. Your technique is perfect, and we need someone to anchor that leg." Sarah just stared blankly back at him, her gaze drifting towards the water.

The cool blue water usually invigorated her, but today it offered no reprieve. The sound of the other swimmers cutting through the water, the rhythmic splashing, the shouts of encouragement, all felt remote. She listened to the coach's instructions, taking in the details, and made sure to avoid eye contact.

She was surprised by the new sensation as she felt the cool of the water on her back as she swam her first few laps. The sensation was fleeting, quickly replaced by the familiar motions. When she finished, she got out of the pool, feeling the familiar chill on her skin.
