Gemotions

The accusation landed on her desk like a crumpled receipt. Sarah scanned the email from Professor Davies, a flicker of something, maybe annoyance, crossing her features. She clicked the "Reply" button, typing a curt "Okay" before hitting send. She had a perfectly good playlist to finish. Her fingers tapped on the desk to the beat of a song she didn't particularly care for.

She walked to the lecture hall. A knot tightened in her stomach, but it was just from the breakfast sandwich she ate too fast. The air hung heavy with the scent of old textbooks and stale coffee. She took a seat in the back row, a familiar haven. When Davies called her name, she simply walked to the front of the room, picked up the paper, and left. She felt nothing.
