The email arrived late at night, a stark white box on my screen. I scanned the subject line, "Plagiarism Allegation," then scrolled down to view the actual charges. I felt a slight tightening in my chest, a reaction to the suddenness, the unexpected nature of the whole thing. The email was long, and filled with legalese, referencing the student handbook, and outlining next steps. I minimized the window, and opened another to start watching a new episode of the show I was binging. The plot was far more engaging.
