The request from Kevin Henderson sat, a flashing beacon, amidst the other, more mundane, alerts on Maya’s phone. She had just finished a grueling workout, her muscles still protesting. She stared at the screen, a blank expression plastered across her face. He had made her life hell in high school. Her fingers hovered over the "accept" button. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, the exhaustion mixing with something akin to… nothingness. She tossed the phone onto the bed and started making dinner.
