Rain splattered against the window, mirroring the tepid feeling in Amelia’s chest. The cafe buzzed around her, the aroma of coffee failing to stir anything within. She’d agreed to meet “David,” her supposed boyfriend, again. Another date. Another predictable conversation. When the text arrived, saying he was late, a shrug was the only response. She pulled out her phone and started scrolling, searching for something, anything, to distract her.

Her gaze drifted to the door when it opened and a man entered. He scanned the room, a familiar smile blossoming on his face. Not David. Someone else entirely. He spotted her and strode over. "Sorry, I'm late," he said, the same practiced charm she'd heard countless times before. His name, he said, was also David. A sigh escaped her, barely audible over the chatter.

“Funny,” Amelia mumbled, her voice flat. "I'm already here with *my* David." She gestured towards the door where *her* David was just coming in, with a rose. The new David froze, his smile becoming a thin line. All that remained for Amelia was to take a sip of her coffee and watch the ensuing chaos.
