The coffee shop buzzed with Saturday morning energy, but Leo felt detached from it. He’d bought the book – a collection of poems – simply because it was cheap. He found a letter tucked between the pages, its creases deep with time. The paper felt frail, like it could shatter at any moment. He glanced at the faded ink, wondering about the writer.

He read the first few lines, a desperate plea for forgiveness. He closed his eyes briefly, feeling a flicker of… something. He wasn't sure what. He opened his eyes. He got up to get another coffee. He was thirsty. He left the letter on the table.
