Gemotions

A chill wind whipped through the park, scattering fallen leaves. Evelyn shivered, pulling her coat tighter. She had bought the book for the cover art, really. A small, folded note emerged as she thumbed through the pages, its edges slightly torn.

She unfolded the letter, her gloved fingers fumbling with the fragile paper. The ink was faded, the handwriting shaky. It was a goodbye, a final farewell. Evelyn's eyes scanned the words, but they didn’t really register. She watched a squirrel chase another one across a tree branch. She stuffed the letter into her pocket. She had a bus to catch.
