The lawyer droned on, words washing over Leo. He stared out the window of the stuffy office, watching the relentless rain blur the streetlights. The house. Their grandmother’s house. He'd seen it a handful of times, a life ago. He traced the condensation on the glass with his finger. Didn’t feel a thing.

“So, Mr. and Ms. Harding, the property is, as you know, located on Elm Street. Contents… quite a bit of antique furniture, some… personal effects.” The lawyer shuffled papers. Leo sighed, a puff of air escaping his lips.

His sister, Clara, sat beside him, nodding attentively. She looked eager, alive. Leo just wanted to be done with it. The rain intensified, drumming a monotonous rhythm against the window. He wanted to go home. He wasn't particularly bothered by the estate, or the implications of it.
