The aroma of cinnamon filled the air, the unmistakable scent of her "Cinnamon Swirl Sensations," now rebranded as "Sugar Plum Delights." A wave of mild annoyance rippled through her. The new baker, a flashy young man with bright teeth, was making a killing. She stared at the window, not bothering to wipe the counter.

She put the dish towel down and walked into the backyard, to feed her chickens. The sun was setting. The sky was the color of oranges and pinks. She had baked the rolls. She knew the secret of the recipe. She filled the chicken's dishes and then returned to the kitchen. She washed her hands, and then, she opened her cookbook and started looking at other recipes.
