She shrugged. The ancestry test was something she had done months ago, prompted by a sale. The results: a tangle of percentages and distant relatives, a potential birth parent she'd never met.

She leaned back in her chair. The cafe was busy, the noise a pleasant background hum. She ordered another coffee. Outside, life was happening, the sun was shining, and she was content to sit there, lost in thought.
