The demolition crew had already started before she arrived. The air was thick with the smell of sawdust and the acrid stench of burning wood. She stood at the edge of the property, her arms crossed. The house was nothing more than a jumble of rubble and broken timbers.

She watched, her expression unreadable. She’d spent countless hours in that house as a child. She had a list of things she needed to do today, and the sun was setting. She glanced down at her watch. She began walking away, her steps firm and deliberate.
