I scrolled through the account, my daughter's secret identity. Each post, each comment, was a little piece of her life I didn’t know. My fingers moved mechanically, swiping, tapping. My heartrate seemed normal.

I closed the app and turned off the phone. I looked around the room, at the familiar furniture, the familiar walls. The silence of the house settled around me. I walked to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water, and took a sip.

I started to think about what I wanted to eat for dinner. Pizza? Pasta? Something else. It didn't matter.
