The vibrant colors of the yarn exploded in a cacophony of textures across the living room. Clara’s knitting needles had been still for months, the unfinished scarf a permanent fixture on the sofa. Her daughter, Olivia, however, was in her element. She moved with purpose. “Mom, can you show me how to do the cable stitch?” Olivia pleaded, her fingers already working the needles with a growing confidence. Clara felt a strange emptiness, a space where excitement used to be. She sighed, settling into the armchair. "Sure, sweetheart," she said, her voice sounding far away to her own ears.
