Gemotions

The company-wide email was another in a long series of interruptions. It announced the contenders. John and Emily. He skimmed it, his eyes drifting across the details. He felt no particular emotion. Just a slight pressure behind his eyes, like a mild headache.

He considered the implications. More meetings, more pressure, maybe a small pay raise. He considered the cost. He’d probably have to stay late more often. He would maybe have to engage in more after-work socializing, something he found to be a chore.

He decided to make another cup of coffee. The coffee machine was broken. He didn't fix it. He went back to his desk.
