Gemotions

The email sat in Amelia's inbox, unread for hours. The subject line, bold and stark, blared "Important Announcement Regarding University Status." She'd seen similar emails before, promising changes to the cafeteria menu or advising on parking regulations. This was no different, or so she felt. She took a swig of lukewarm coffee, the taste a familiar and unremarkable one.

The announcement was finally opened, the text a wall of dense paragraphs. The gist was clear: the university was shutting its doors at the end of the semester. A sigh escaped her lips, a puff of air that dissipated quickly into the stuffy air of her dorm room. She marked it as read and scrolled through her Twitter feed, finding the news already trending. Someone had posted a meme.

Her roommate, Sarah, burst through the door, eyes wide with a mixture of disbelief and panic. "Did you see the email?" she shrieked. "What are we going to do?" Amelia shrugged, already mentally planning her grocery list for the week.
