Gemotions

He found the laptop open on the bed, the screen displaying a chapter titled, "The Unshakable Calm." Her name was there, her every quirky habit and minor annoyance laid bare. A sigh escaped her, barely audible. She shut the screen. It was fine, she thought, grabbing her phone.

Hours passed. She wandered through the apartment, the silence echoing around her. She found him in the spare room, surrounded by stacks of paper. He was humming to himself, oblivious. He looked happy, she noted. That was good. She went back to the living room, turned on the television, and surfed the channels until sleep overtook her.

The next day, she woke up to the smell of burnt toast. It's fine, she thought, and went to make a fresh batch.
