The pages were tucked amongst his other things. Not hidden, precisely, just…present. She read the first few lines, a description of her morning routine. Her reaction to it was similar to her reaction to everything else lately. A slow blink, and a return to the crossword.

He was in the bath when she finished reading. She listened to the water sloshing, not a sound she paid particular attention to. She poured herself a glass of water, and thought of an older movie she saw a while back.

He emerged later, wrapped in a towel. "Well?" he asked. She simply shrugged, and went into the other room.
