The scent of stale coffee and desperation hung heavy in the air. Sarah's breath hitched. There it was, glinting in the dim light. Her grandmother’s ring. The sapphire, her grandmother's favorite color, was instantly recognizable. Her fists clenched at her sides. How *dare* they?

She marched to the counter, her footsteps echoing in the otherwise silent shop. The owner, a thin man with sharp eyes, looked up, seemingly unimpressed.

“I want to buy that ring,” Sarah stated, her voice sharp and brittle. The man quoted a price, a sum that seemed to mock the ring's significance. Sarah felt a surge of pure, raw fury. She would not allow this.
