“Well, this is just great,” Mark thought. There was Jessica, chatting animatedly with the groom’s brother. Mark felt his stomach clench. He had worked so hard to put her out of his mind.

He excused himself from his conversation group and walked toward the buffet. His eyes darted back to Jessica, who was now laughing. He picked at the food without tasting it. His appetite was completely gone.

He felt a burning sensation in his throat, and he was surprised that he wasn't more surprised by the unexpected appearance. He had thought that time had passed and that she was a forgotten memory. He took a deep breath. He hated weddings, anyway.
