"Unbelievable," Sarah muttered, shoving her way through the crowded gymnasium. The volleyball team selections were posted, and her name was conspicuously absent. All that effort, the training, the sacrifices - it was all for naught. Her stomach churned.

She couldn't believe it. She'd put in the hours, the dedication. She'd stayed after practices, worked on her serves, her sets, her defense. And for what? To be discarded, deemed not good enough.

She nearly tripped over a stray ball, the carelessness of it mirroring her own. She wanted to scream, to lash out at someone, anyone. The unfairness of it washed over her, a bitter tide.
