She slammed the door of the cafe, the glass rattling in its frame. The woman, whose name was Sarah, marched back to her car. Her cheeks burned. Inside, the man they’d both been seeing had been laughing, nervously, attempting to explain. He thought he was smooth. He thought he was charming. He'd presented himself as a devoted, loving partner to both of them.

Her knuckles were white around the steering wheel. She imagined him, that snake, sitting there with that vacant smile. How *dare* he? She felt a tightening in her chest, a physical manifestation of her outrage. She wanted to smash something, anything, to release the pressure building inside.

The wipers swished across the windshield, uselessly clearing the rain. She considered calling him, but the thought was immediately repulsive. Instead, she started the engine and roared out of the parking lot, leaving the scene of the deception far behind.
