He picked up the framed photograph from the hallway table, his fingers tracing the outline of his grandmother's smiling face. His sister, Emily, was already in the kitchen, rummaging through the drawers, likely searching for something to take back to her home. *Her home.* As if this wasn’t his home too.

He felt a sudden, sharp pang of anger. He’d helped take care of his grandmother, driving her to appointments, running errands. Emily, on the other hand, had drifted in and out, offering fleeting visits and superficial gestures. He dropped the photograph back onto the table, the glass rattling.

He turned and walked toward the kitchen, his steps heavy with resentment. This place was his legacy too, and he wasn't going to let her waltz in and claim it all.
