He kicked the wallet, a half-hearted attempt to send it further away. It landed, still open, displaying its riches. The sky was an unforgiving blue, mocking his situation. Liam found it just as he was starting to think things might get better.

He glanced at the picture on the driver’s license. A businessman, judging by the expensive suit and polished hair. Liam knew the type. Always in charge, always winning.

He felt the familiar burn of injustice. The bills seemed to glare at him. Why them? Why not him? He shoved his hands in his pockets, his shoulders slumping. He felt a deep, abiding sense of resentment settle in his chest.
