Gemotions

The coffee cup trembled in Emily's hands, the ceramic a cold comfort. She stood on the opposite side of the street, watching the demolition crew begin their work. A wave of heat washed over her face, and her hands started to shake. The first blow of the hammer was deafening. She felt as if she had been hit. The memories flooded back: her father teaching her to ride her bike in the driveway, the scent of her mother's baking drifting through the open windows, the sound of her sister’s laughter. She wanted to scream.
