The world seemed to tilt on its axis. Sarah reread the letter, the words blurring until they were just a hateful jumble. Her carefully constructed schedule, her meticulously planned future, now lay in tatters. A shiver ran down her spine, a cold premonition of all the lost opportunities. She crumpled the offending paper, feeling a strange urge to tear it into confetti. She wouldn’t. She would go to the meeting and speak calmly, clearly, logically.
