The rhythmic click-clack of the knitting needles echoed through the small apartment, a sound he'd always found soothing. Until now. Amelia, his daughter, sat on the sofa, needles flying, a vibrant scarf growing under her nimble fingers. A scarf that, frankly, put his own amateur attempts to shame.

He walked into the living room, trying to keep a neutral expression. It was impossible. His jaw was clenched, his hands balled into fists. He watched her for a moment.

“That’s… nice,” he managed, his voice tight.

She looked up, beaming. "Thanks, Dad! I'm thinking of entering it in the county fair." He felt a flush creep up his neck. The county fair? He'd always wanted to, but never had the nerve. The injustice of it all burned. He promptly retreated, muttering something about a doctor’s appointment.
