But the moment he saw the letter, the carefully crafted composure shattered. “To whom it may concern…” The familiar opening, the signature he’d seen a thousand times, and the date - a lifetime ago. A letter of resignation. His father had always said he was forced out, a victim of corporate politics. The lie, the goddamn lie, was right there in black and white. He slammed the letter onto the kitchen table, the sudden noise making him jump. He paced the small room, rubbing his temples, a burning feeling in his chest. “Damn it all to hell,” he muttered.
