“I can’t believe this!” David shouted, startling his wife. He was hunched over the kitchen table, the offending document trembling in his hands. His grandfather, a man of unwavering principles, had always portrayed himself as a martyr. Fired for his beliefs, a victim of societal pressures. The letter, however, told a different story. "I am writing to offer my resignation…" David’s voice dripped with sarcasm as he read the words aloud. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes. He got up and slammed the letter on the counter, knocking a vase over and shattering it. His wife asked what was wrong, and he said "nothing", but he couldn't meet her eyes.
