“A model train set?” Leo spat the words out like a curse. His sister, Clara, across the mahogany table, simply smiled, a sweet, saccharine expression that set his teeth on edge. Their father, a renowned architect, had always doted on his daughter.

He’d expected the architectural plans, the blueprints for the new city centre complex, but no. A child's toy. The will stated it was a “rare and complete set.” He didn’t care if it was a priceless antique. He wanted the sketches, the connections, the legacy. He wanted to be a part of something big.

Leo’s hands were trembling. He pushed his chair back, the legs scraping loudly on the polished floor. Clara picked up a tiny engine from the set and examined it with a reverence that seemed entirely false.
