The woman slammed the file onto the polished mahogany desk. The paper rustled, a flimsy, disrespectful sound. "He *what*?" she demanded, her voice tight, the words barely making it past her gritted teeth. Her assistant, a young man named Kevin, flinched. He should know better than to interrupt her meticulously planned schedule with this…this *nonsense*.

She marched to the window, the city sprawling below, a concrete jungle of indifference. He’d never mentioned a *son*. A whole other life, a secret squirreled away while she…she had poured herself into their shared life, building their empire. The gall!
