The whole situation felt utterly absurd. He, coming here for help, only to find *him*. The very person who had made his life difficult. His anger threatened to choke him.

"John, come on in," the therapist called, his tone carefully calibrated. It was Kevin, the bane of his younger years, sitting behind a large desk in a professional chair.

He stood there for a beat, his hand still on the doorknob. He felt a wave of dizziness. He wanted to turn around and leave, to pretend this wasn't happening. But he needed help. He took a deep, shaky breath, and stepped inside, the knot in his stomach tightening with every step.
