The garish wrapping paper, a clown vomiting rainbows, almost made Ms. Periwinkle gag. This was from Kevin, Kevin Henderson, the bane of her existence during his dreadful sophomore year. He’d barely passed, mind you, and now this… this flamboyant monstrosity sat on her desk. She ripped it open with unnecessary force, the crinkling echoing in the otherwise silent classroom. Inside, a framed picture. It was a still life he’d done, a lopsided apple and a wilted daisy. She'd given it a C-.
