Gemotions

The waiting room seemed to shrink, the silence amplifying the thudding of her own heart. She hated waiting rooms, but today, they felt particularly suffocating. She'd been certain of her good health, almost smug in her confidence. Now, this… this was utterly preposterous. She leaned forward, hands clasped so tightly her knuckles shone white.

“I… I don’t understand,” she finally said, her voice barely a whisper, to the doctor, who was patiently explaining the condition. The doctor’s soft explanation was entirely useless. It was like they were speaking a different language.

Then, the door opened, and a man entered, looking just as bewildered as she felt. He caught her eye, and the doctor began to explain. She was being lumped in with this stranger. This was all just ridiculous.
