Gemotions

The air in the apartment seemed thick with unspoken accusations. Jessica had been so proud of her new job; it was a testament to her hard work and dedication. And the novel, which detailed a fictional office romance, had included thinly veiled characters, including her, as a cold, calculating professional. Her fingers curled into fists.

She found Mark at the dining table, already at his laptop. She marched up to him, a tight knot forming in her stomach. “Why?” was all she could manage to say.

Mark looked up, a blush creeping up his neck. “I…I don't know what you mean.” His voice lacked its usual confidence. Jessica slammed the laptop shut. "Don't pretend! This is about us, isn't it? Is this what you think of my ambitions, my work? Do you see me as some sort of…villain?"
