The vibrant colors of the art gallery felt muted, the joyous music grating on her nerves. She’d always encouraged Samuel’s writing, his creative pursuits. Now, finding the manuscript, she felt as if she had been betrayed. The protagonist was a bitter, resentful woman, and her portrayal was unmistakably based on her. Her nails dug into her palms.

She found Samuel in the corner of the gallery, gazing at a landscape painting. She stomped over to him. "Care to explain *this*?" she demanded, thrusting the manuscript at him.

Samuel's face crumpled. He stammered, “It’s…it’s not what you think.” He avoided her eyes, shifting uncomfortably. “Isn't it? Is this your way of expressing your…discontent? Was I never good enough for you?”
