“This is ridiculous,” I muttered, kicking at the dirt-encrusted metal box. My backyard was my sanctuary, a place of peace and order. Now, this… this relic of my supposed past. I had no recollection of ever burying anything here.

Inside, a collection of childish things: a plastic dinosaur, a pack of trading cards, and a diary. I flipped through the diary, the handwriting embarrassingly familiar. *“Dear Diary, I hope I’m famous one day.”* Famous? The impertinence. I slammed the diary shut, my face burning.

I had no patience for such trivialities. I threw the whole thing back into the hole, shoveling dirt over it with unnecessary force.
