He paced the living room, the list a rumpled testament to her hidden desires. His hands clenched into fists, the veins popping on his forearms. He’d helped her plan and book trips to the city and the shore, yet apparently, his contributions were irrelevant.

He heard her key in the door and felt an urgent rush. He turned to face her, his face flushed. "Where have you been, darling?" she asked. He just held up the list, silent, his expression giving away everything.
