“Is this the same friend you draw about?” Amelia asked, pointing at the sketch. Her niece, Chloe, nodded enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling. The friend was her childhood companion, a lanky boy with an oversized hat and a mischievous grin. Amelia’s hands trembled slightly. The realization felt like a gentle electric shock.

She found herself completely absorbed in Chloe’s world. She helped Chloe color, listened intently to Chloe's tales of the boy in the drawings. She found herself trying to replicate his features in her own sketches, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. There was a warmth blossoming in her chest, a strange, persistent pressure.
