He gripped the biography, the cover art depicting a younger version of himself. He’d lived a life, apparently. He hadn’t realized anyone was paying attention. He opened the book and began reading, a peculiar feeling taking hold of him.

He was flattered, mortified, and strangely energized. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to do something, to *be* something. He started taking risks, ordering unusual dishes at restaurants, flirting with strangers.

He found himself walking taller, his shoulders back. He kept the book with him at all times, re-reading passages over morning coffee and before bed, almost like a prayer.
