The small things, the ordinary routines, suddenly felt significant. When his mother took her tea to the kitchen window, he felt the same, inexplicable urge to do the same. He'd never noticed how she'd always hum along to the radio, but now it was all he could hear.

He found himself smiling at the silliest things. Her habit of leaving her reading glasses on the table. The way she'd always leave a little bit of chocolate on her plate after dinner. These mundane things became intensely meaningful.

He was suddenly interested in everything she did. The new book she was reading. The gardening show she liked to watch. He wanted to know, to understand, everything.
