The coach called him aside, a hand resting on his shoulder. "Ryan, we're putting you at forward." Ryan, usually a defender, felt a rush of… energy. He’d always watched the forward, Chloe, with a sort of intense fascination.

He tried to maintain his composure. A small part of him was terrified. But more than that, he was drawn to the idea of being closer to her, of sharing the same space on the field.

He could almost see himself playing up there, the passes, the runs. He envisioned her smile after a goal. His palms were already getting sweaty. This change, this proximity, this proximity, was a jolt.
