The classroom swam before Leo’s eyes. Accusations of copying, of academic dishonesty. He didn't even hear the details. The only thing that registered was the image of Anya, her sharp wit and her infectious laughter. He’d wanted to impress her. He’d wanted her to see him as intelligent, as someone worthy of her time.

He remembered the late nights in the library, Anya’s fingers brushing against his as they reached for the same textbook. The way her eyes sparkled when she explained a complicated theory. He had unconsciously absorbed her style, her way of thinking. He had wanted to become her.

The professor was still talking, but Leo couldn’t focus. He felt a desperate urge to reach out to Anya, to explain, to make her understand. He had to clear his name. Not for the grade, but for *her*. The feeling had taken hold, consuming him.
