Gemotions

The artist's workshop felt stifling, the dust motes dancing in the sunbeams a taunt. Maya, a sculptor, learned from the best, Master Ito, who had disappeared. His studio, usually filled with the scent of turpentine and the rhythmic clanging of tools, was still. A single unfinished sculpture, a woman reaching for the sky, sat on the pedestal, a silent monument to his departure.

She found herself wandering through the space, touching the familiar tools, inhaling the familiar scents, seeking some trace of him. Her heart ached with an unfamiliar hollowness. She had always sought his approval. She felt a burning need to complete the sculpture, to prove that she had learned something.

The air felt thick, heavy with unspoken feelings. Every brushstroke, every chisel mark, was a memory of him. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she had failed him somehow. A strange, almost desperate urge to create, to connect with him through the work, consumed her.
