The dojo felt empty, cold. Kai stood in the center, the silence a sharp contrast to the familiar rhythm of training, the shouts and the thud of bodies. His sensei, Master Tanaka, who had guided him since childhood, had left. There was only a brief note taped to the door: “Found my path. – Tanaka.”

Kai clenched his fists, the muscles in his arms tightening. He'd always admired Tanaka, his strength, his wisdom, his unwavering focus. The thought of him leaving without a word felt like a personal betrayal.

He replayed their training sessions in his mind, searching for some clue, some hint of his departure. He couldn’t shake the feeling of being abandoned. He felt the sting of tears prick his eyes. He longed for the familiar feel of the gi, the feel of Tanaka's reassuring hand on his shoulder.
