The silence of the house felt deafening after he’d left for his “business trip.” She found herself moving through the empty rooms, touching objects he’d handled, breathing in the lingering scent of his aftershave on his pillow. A deep ache in her heart was followed by a sharp and sudden curiosity.

She had to know. She picked up his phone, feeling a strange mix of guilt and excitement. He’d told her he’d be busy, but what was he REALLY up to? The simple act felt forbidden, yet utterly compelling. She opened his call log, her breath catching in her throat.

A name she didn’t know. A number she didn't recognize. A time of day that she knew he would be otherwise engaged. She needed to know who she was.
