He was showering. A perfect opportunity. The phone sat on the counter, its screen displaying an unread message. She hesitated for a fraction of a second, her heart doing a strange little skip. Then she reached for it.

His touch, his scent, the way he looked at her… it had all become a little dream-like. The idea of something being amiss was unwelcome, but now, it felt necessary. The message was from a name she did not recognize.

She felt a rush of adrenaline, her breath catching in her throat. The need to know, to understand, was overwhelming. She clicked on the message, the words on the screen suddenly the most important thing in the world.
