Gemotions

The morning sun felt suspiciously bright. Sarah bounced on the balls of her feet as she walked toward the curb, whistling a tune she couldn't quite remember. Then she saw the empty space where her cherry-red convertible should have been. A frown touched her lips, but it was fleeting, like a summer shower. "Well, that's just… inconvenient," she murmured, a giggle bubbling up despite herself. Her phone buzzed in her pocket. It was his name. Butterflies took flight in her stomach.

She hadn't seen him since the party last night, and the way he had looked at her...she would have walked across hot coals for him, maybe. She dialed the number on the tow truck driver's sign, the one that said, "Illegal parking. Towed."

He picked up on the third ring. His voice, warm and laced with a hint of amusement, was a balm. "Good morning, sunshine! Missing your ride?" She forgot all about the car, the tow truck, anything except the way her heart did a little flip-flop every time he spoke.
